The University of Northern Iowa Veteran Association (UNIVA) will host its third annual statewide PTSD Awareness Conference from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 27th, in the Maucker Union on the UNI campus.
The conference will cover issues and concerns related to PTSD that not only originate from military experiences but will also include topics regarding to secondary PTSD, vicarious traumas, and other related topics. Speakers will present on subjects such as mental, emotional and academic support for those suffering from secondary PTSD; the conference will focus on therapies and treatments along with secondary and vicarious PTSD; and will be a therapeutic intervention to the specific as well as broad challenges of changing generations of practitioners providing services to the evolving cultures of present day.
The conference will include an open panel discussion on how PTSD and the effects of secondary PTSD can challenge individuals during their day-to-day life, college and professional careers. This event will raise awareness to an unseen disorder by many. It will provide an opportunity to support continuing education to professionals and the general community alike.

This conference will serve as a way for students to learn strategies for overcoming their PTSD as well as a conduit for college and university administrations to better serve their students who have been affected by PTSD.
